Pre-Med Scholars Institute

WHF sponsored its Pre-Med Scholars Institute in July 2026, a one-week intensive introduction into medical careers, guided by physicians, medical students, and experienced healthcare professionals. This program is designed for high school students exploring health care careers.

Students participating in the institute were introduced to such topics as clinical skills training, physician and healthcare professional mentorships, medical case studies, human anatomy and physiology, medical research exposure, healthcare career exploration and upon completion, received a certificate.

During the Clinical Skills Workshop, participants learned how to interview a patient, physical exam techniques, vital signs assessment, and clinical communication skills. The Medicine Through Case Studies portion of the program offered the opportunity to analyze real-world medical cases, how to develop clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills, as well as learn how physicians approached diagnosis and treatment. The Modern Medicine section touched on such subjects as artificial intelligence in healthcare, emerging healthcare technologies and biotechnology and precision medicine. The institute concluded with a discussion on Professionalism and Medical Ethics, which discussed such important topics as HIPAA and patient confidentiality, medical ethics and decision-making, and roles and responsibilities of healthcare professionals.

Upon completion, participating students received a certificate of completion to mark their achievement. All who attended described the institute as a wonderful chance to speak to doctors and medical professionals, and help them to consider what careers to pursue.
