Whitetulip Maryland Branch Holds Blood Drive Amid COVID-19 Pandemic
On September 26th, the Whitetulip Health Foundation Maryland Branch held a blood drive in collaboration with the American Red Cross. A total of 28 community members made donations.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a nationwide blood shortage, with many centers canceling their drives due to safety concerns. However, it is more important now than ever to donate plasma and help save lives.
The American Red Cross tests all donation samples for COVID-19 antibodies, which occur in the plasma of those who have had the disease with or without knowing it. COVID-19 antibodies can be used for research and for direct antibody infusion for those currently fighting the disease.
We hope that blood drives hosted by our branches across the country will help save lives through blood donation as well as helping end the pandemic through research samples collected.
